“Families in Action/Active Parenting of Teens will help these teenagers learn communication and behavioral skills that will make a difference in their family life and community relationships.”
“When parents come into the program (Families in Action/Active Parenting of Teens), they are closed up and think they are alone in the problems they are having with their child. But as we watch the videos and discuss the situations, the moms and dads start opening up. They begin looking at situations from other points of view and ultimately they grow and develop new ways of parenting their children.”
“It has been a joy to facilitate Active Parenting of Teens... Just wanted you to know that this is one of the best parent programs I have seen and I think many parents will benefit...”
“I have had several people ask me about my parenting skills. This is due to my wonderful daughter... This wasn’t always the case... I began experiencing problems that I wasn’t prepared to handle... I truly believe that implementing the techniques of your Active Parenting of Teens program saved both of us... I felt that I had the skills to deal with parenting a teen and that we had set a good foundation for mutual success... Thank you for your contribution to our success and happiness.”
Comprehensive Juvenile Services Receives Juvenile Program Award
The Active Parenting of Teens parent education program was selected as the Juvenile Program of the Year at the conclusion of the Arkansas Coalition for Juvenile Justice Conference in North Little Rock, Arkansas on September 13, 2007. The Active Parenting of Teens is a program offered by Comprehensive Juvenile Services in Sebastian, Crawford, and Logan Counties. Ms. Frances Morreale, Parent Instructor, has been conducting the parenting classes since 1994. The program is offered to the parents of teenage children who have entered the juvenile justice system or who are at risk of entering the juvenile justice system.
The Active Parenting of Teens is a six week curriculum which addresses the various principles and skills which are necessary to assist parents in becoming more effective in the management of their teenage children. The program encourages parents to adopt skills that are needed to resolve family conflicts and to help reduce discipline problems. Parents are taught ways to promote confidence and self-esteem, which are most vital in helping parents to address their children’s turbulent years and to produce positive results. The six part curriculum includes: The Active Parent, Instilling Courage and Self-Esteem, Developing Responsibility, Winning Cooperation through Communications, the Challenge of Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Parenting and Teen Sexuality.
Since the beginning of the program, the Active Parenting of Teens has enrolled 3,970 parents into the educational program. As of date, the graduation rate is 65%. The Active Parenting of Teens is exclusively designed for the parents who will, in turn, have a positive influence on their child. In order to divert the youth from juvenile delinquency, the efforts must begin on the home front, with parental involvement and control.
In addition to the Active Parenting of Teens, Comprehensive Juvenile Services provides a variety of services for the delinquent and at- risk youth in Sebastian, Crawford, Logan, Scott, Polk, and Montgomery County. The services include casework, electronic monitoring, community services, mental health, and residential treatment. The emergency shelter, The Western Arkansas Youth Shelter, is located in Cecil, Arkansas. Comprehensive Juvenile Services is a private, non-profit youth and family service organization.
